TEMPERATURE EFFECTS ON THE INFRARED SPECTRA OF POLYFUNCTIONAL ALCOHOLS.

Abstract

The major effort of the research reported here was directed toward an investigation of the thermodynamics and the mechanics of hydrogen bonded polyfunctional alcohols by means of infrared spectroscopy. The plan was to determine the enthalpies of hydrogen bond formation and the frequency shifts of the O-H group vibration accompanying the formation of the hydrogen bond for polyfunctional alcohols of known geometry. The goals were fully met for two different types of systems, orthohalophenols and dihydroxybutanes. (Author)
