DETERMINATION OF ELASTIC CONSTANTS OF SOLIDS.

Abstract

An apparatus determining the mechanical resonance frequencies of thin cylinders and prisms is described. The equipment may be used at frequencies from less than five kilocycles per second to in excess of three hundred kilocycles per second. The frequency range corresponds, for inorganic structural materials, to specimen lengths varying from over fifteen inches to less than one inch. Equations, graphs and tables are presented from which Young's modulus, the shear modulus, and Poisson's ratio may be computed. (Author)
