EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF EXPANDED PYROLYTIC GRAPHITE FOR USE IN SPACE RADIATORS.

Abstract

This report describes testing of plasma spraying of all tests specimens. Thermal cycling tests were continued with two operational problems causing a delay. Thermal aging tests are continuing with approximately 1700 hours logged to date. Mechanical testing is complete for the compression and shear tests. Further tension tests will be run to attain full material property strength. Fatigue tests are complete and damping tests are well under way. The first three panel radiator array specimen is ready for dynamic test following the damping tests. The as brazed thermal conductivity specimens have been tested. Preliminary analysis of expanded pyrolytic graphite specific weights was made relative to other candidate materials.
