FLUCTUATION INTENSITY OF PASSIVE SPECIES IN TURBULENT SHEAR FLOWS.

Abstract

The equation for species density fluctuation intensity is derived for chemically reacting turbulent shear flows. To make this equation tractable, it is assumed that dilation effects are negligible and that the turbulent dissipation is described by the results of isotropic turbulence. Using the derived equation, the radial profile of fluctuation intensity is calculated for a smoke jet. The profile is fitted to experimental data by adjustment of two parameters; both are in reasonable agreement with experiment. (Author)
