A STUDY OF SILICONE DRESSINGS FOR BURNS.

Abstract

The object of this investigation was to determine whether gauze impregnated with various silicone preparations offered any advantage over vaseline gauze in treatment for application to burned areas. Comparisons have been made on mice under controlled conditions of burned areas which were treated with gauze bandages impregnated both with certain silicones and with vaseline. Results were evaluated primarily by observation and comparison of the burned areas visually and in certain instances histological sections were made through the burned areas. The conclusion has been drawn that gauze treated with the silicones investigated is as satisfactory as, but offers no decided advantage over, vaseline impregnated bandages for treatment of burns in mice where conditions of dispensing and convenience of sterilization are not considered directly.
