ENGINEERING TEST (DESERT) OF TRUCK, FORKLIFT, MULTIPURPOSE, 4,000-POUND CAPACITY, UL-42 (SANDPIPER).

Abstract

An engineering test of Truck, Forklift, Multipurpose, 4000-Pound Capacity, UL-42 (Sandpiper) was conducted at Yuma Proving Ground, Yuma, Arizona, from 12 July to 28 October 1966. The purpose of the test was to determine the ability of the test item to operate in, and withstand the rigors of, low altitude desert climate and terrain conditions and to collect data on the safety aspects of the test vehicle. Drawbar pull and fuel consumption, full load cooling, fuel vapor handling, human factors engineering, and part of the mobility tests were completed. Testing was terminated by USATECOM before sand slope operation, sand drawbar pull, dust, level cross-country, paved road operation, and refueling rate test were conducted. Insufficient operation was conducted to completely evaluate the ability of the test item to operate in, and withstand the rigors of, low altitude, desert climate, and terrain conditions. (Author)
