SYMPOSIUM ON BIONIC MODELS OF THE ANIMAL SONAR SYSTEM, FRASCATI, ITALY, 26 SEPTEMBER - 3 OCTOBER 1966.

Abstract

The Symposium on Bionic Models of the Animal Sonar System was convened at Frascati, Italy, from 26 September through 3 October, 1966. The Symposium was sponsored by NATO, ONR, USAF and the European Office of Aerospace Research. Papers were presented on acoustic orientation, obstacle detection and communication by bats, porpoises and a few other air and marine animals. Probable means of signal processing and experimental data on the neural processing of bat sonar were presented. Natural and auxiliary sonar assistance for the blind were discussed.
