EXPERIMENTAL AMMONIA BATTERY.

Abstract

This engineering investigation was performed to design and develop a 10 watt, 24/32 volt, low temperature primary reserve liquid amonia battery with minimum requirements for a prototype of 20 milliamperes output, 36 hours life, 5 pounds over-all weight, 55 cubic inches in volume, operating temperatures of minus 65 F to plus 125 F, 5 years shelf life, and capability to withstand mechanical shocks up to 175g along any axis. The results of this investigation produced experimental batteries which met our minimum requirements and had end discharge times of 84 to 89 hours within 20 per cent voltage regulation.
