COMPUTER SCIENCE PROGRAM.

Abstract

This is the final report to ARPA summarizing results achieved during the period of support. These have been principally: (1) design, implementation, and extension of a programming system that permits two-dimensional computer input, similar to ordinary mathematical notation, via an input typewriter; this system radically speeds up the programming process compared to conventional languages such as Fortran and reduces programming costs; (2) development of unique two-dimensional input-output for on-line interactive programming; (3) development of a special Selectric typehead; (4) development of auxiliary consoles for push-button programming; (5) progress in the automation of numerical analysis; (6) development of techniques for automatic mathematical text typesetting; (7) development of unique capabilities for two-dimensional program and mathematical text editing.
