PHASE SHIFT VARACTOR - DETECTOR DIODES.

Abstract

The state-of-the-art of phase-shift and standing-wave amplification is extended by the development of specialized varactors which exhibit optimum characteristics for this application. A figure of merit for maximum gain bandwidth product is developed, and techniques for the fabrication of varactors which maximize this figure of merit are described. Experimental results demonstrate the validity of this approach for broadband phase shift amplifiers. Two function diode packages of special design, incorporating both the upconverting and the downconverting functions of the phase shift amplifier within both the upconverting and the downconverting functions of the phase shift amplifier within a single package are developed.
