INVESTIGATION OF THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF ROCKET COMBUSTION PRODUCTS.

Abstract

Work on the determination of the polymeric composition of LiF vapor in equilibrium with the condensed phase was continued using beam modulation mass spectrometry. It was found that accurate experimental measurements could not be made for LiF and Li3F2 because high unsteady background signals were observed at the mass positions corresponding to these ionspecies. Tests revealed that the possible source of the background noise is the Viton O-rings used in the rotary seal on the mass spectrometer. Plans are being made to use bellows-sealed rotary motion feed-through in place of the present O-ring rotating seal. Studies on H2-BeO system have been initiated to obtain thermodynamic data on BeOH. Initially, the vapor equilibrium BeO(g) + H2(g) = BeOH(g) +H(g) will be considered. (Author)
