MULTISTAGE RADIAL IMPELLER PUMP. PART II, OPTIMIZATION STUDY OF PUMP TYPES.

Abstract

An analytical study was made of high-pressure liquid hydrogen pumps to compare axial flow, centrifugal, and multistaged radial pumps. A limited literature search was made in the field of liquid hydrogen technology, yielding a background for the present study. Vehicle coupled turbopump design characteristics (required NPSH, power requirements, stability margin, length and diameter, scaling rules) are discussed. A comparison of weight, efficiency, pressure rise capability, throttling range, and tip speeds are presented.
