AN OBSERVATION OF SUBTIDAL INTERNAL WAVE VELOCITIES NEAR BERMUDA.

Abstract

This report describes an experiment conducted to measure the speed and direction of subtidal (1- to 5-hour periods) internal waves at ARGUS Tower, an observation platform on Plantagenet Bank, Bermuda. Simultaneous bathythermographs and bucket temperatures were taken on the bank and at two adjacent deepwater stations. The results showed the waves moving at 2.6 knots from 093 degrees T. ARGUS Tower apparently generates a significant amount of high-frequency internal wave energy. (Author)
