NEW METHODS LEADING TO HIGH EFFICIENCY IN TRAVELING-WAVE TUBES.
Abstract
This is the second of four quarterly reports to be issued detailing the progress made in achieving high efficiency in traveling-wave tubes. It contains an exact small signal theory yielding readily calculable formulae for the propagation constants of the system waves in traveling-wave tubes. Additional data are given on the positively-tapered traveling-wave tube, indicating that this tube is slightly better than 50 percent efficiency when it is operated with a single-stage depressed collector. Data on two very long traveling-wave tubes with uniform circuits are presented to further illuminate the mechanisms at work in the highly overvoltaged operation of traveling-wave tubes.
