DEVELOPMENT OF A BROADBAND, S-BAND AMPLIFIER FOR USE IN THE SIGNAL PROCESSING TEST FACILITY.

Abstract

The objective of this contract is to develop the VA-915A, a broadband, S-band amplifier to be used in the Signal Processing Test Facility (SPTF) at RADC. The VA-915A amplifier is being developed for a 15% instantaneous electronic bandwidth from 3100 to 3600 MHz, with a mean peak power output across the band of 7.15 Mw min. and 30 db min. gain. A hybrid amplifier approach is being made, although a straight TWT is not excluded. A test on a lower frequency S-band tube using a centipede TWT output section will provide information on gain, stability, and efficiency. A simplified centipede slow-wave circuit has been developed. A microperveance 2 electron gun is being developed for a dispenser cathode. Magnetic field work has also been started. A back-up gun is being examined.
