STATE OF THE ART REVIEW OF HELICOPTER TRANSMISSIONS, TURBOPROP GEARBOXES AND LUBRICATION THEREOF,

Abstract

A State of the Art Review pertaining to helicopter transmissions, turboprop gearboxes and lubrication thereof is presented for both development and production units for years 1950 to 1966. Parameters such as gear reduction ratio, specific weight, efficiency, power, torque, weights, volume, cost, reliability and maintenance hours are shown for 27 models of helicopter transmissions and 11 models of turboprop gearboxes. Recommendations are made for (1) future transmissions to have lower specific weights and higher efficiency, and (2) programs to achieve these goals with improved reliability. (Author)
