PASSIVE LOW FREQUENCY SIMPLE DIRECTIONAL SONOBUOY.

Abstract

An investigation of the feasibility of developing an A size, passive directional sonobuoy to give bearing indications on low-frequency sounds was made. Sonobuoy components and over-the-side breadboard proving models were developed and tested. Tests were conducted on a variety of motor drives. Sonobuoy tests were conducted in calm and rough water. The investigation demonstrated the feasibility of developing an A size, passive, directional sonobuoy using either a rotating 2-ft line hydrophone with a resonant frequency of 7000 Hz, or a rotating 4-ft line hydrophone with a resonant frequency of 3500 Hz.
