INFRARED INTENSITY STUDIES OF CONDENSED PHASES.

Abstract

Techniques for measuring absolute infrared intensities of thin solid films have been developed and evaluated. Results have been obtained for all the active fundamentals of a number of representative molecules. These results indicate that large intensity changes are often observed. Progress towards the quantitative interpretation of these results has been less rapid, but some has been made. It seems quite clear that the changes which occur on condensation are related to the changes which occur on complexing. Both effects have some considerable interest in terms of the fundamental understanding of the changes in the electronic structure of molecules when they begin to interact weakly with each other.
