MICROWAVE ULTRASONICS.

Abstract

This paper presents a general survey of the recent Western and Soviet research and achievements in the field of microwave ultrasonics. Specific facets described in detail are the generation of ultrasonic microwaves in quartz, excitation of ultrasonic microwaves by a semiconductor depletion-layer transducer. The author also discusses the following problems: (1) the propagation of ultrasonic microwaves through solids; (2) the attenuation of ultrasonic microwaves in quartz; (3) the amplification of ultrasonic microwaves and phonons; (4) the interaction of microwave phonons and extrinsic crystals; (5) the interaction of microwave phonons and electrons. The original article has one table, eighteen figures and thirty formulas. (Author)
