ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES FOR THE DETERMINATION OF TRACE METAL IMPURITIES IN BERYLLIUM.
Abstract
For the preparation of specimens suitable for future mass spectrographic programs the following materials were used: Brush Beryllium's QMV beryllium, Vacuum Cast Pechiney S-R Grade beryllium, and two-pass zone-refined beryllium prepared from Pechiney S-R grade. From six locations of each of the three materials, four one inch rods were prepared; 1/8 inch O.D. in the case of the QMV and the zone refined beryllium, 3/16 inch in the case of the vacuum cast material. Chips produced adjacent to the rod locations were used for the characterization of the composition by chemical and spectrographic techniques. Spectrographic techniques were developed for the determination of a number of impurity elements in beryllium metal involving a maximum of 50 mg of sample. (Author)
