PHOTO INTERPRETER DATA SYSTEMS STUDY.
Abstract
An analysis is reported of the need for, and use of, data processing equipment to support the photo interpreter in a field environment, a review of the existing Image Interpretation Central AN/MSQ-58A system operation, and an analysis of the photo interpreter to computer communication equipment and procedures for the IIC. The conclusions reached during this study include: (1) data processing equipments and techniques can substantially assist the photo interpreter in the performance of a limited number, but otherwise very time consuming, computation, report preparation, and plotting tasks; (2) a revised IIC system is required to store and access computer programs more readily, provide a rapid means of data entry by the photo interpreter, and provide faster plotting and page printout capabilities; and (3) a Digital Input Switch Panel (DISP) is required in the IIC to provide the photo interpreter with a simple, rapid, and accurate means of communicating with the computer. The recommended system configuration and the work flow charts are presented in the report; the functional design and use of the DISP is also included.
