MASS SPECTROGRAPHY FOR THE ANALYSIS OF SOLIDS. (II) DETERMINATION OF THE ISOTOPIC RATIOS OF LEAD, THORIUM AND URANIUM IN MINERALS.

Abstract

The isotopic ratios of lead, thorium and uranium in minerals were determined by vacuum spark mass spectrography. The advantages of this procedure are as follows: no chemical separation is necessary; the size of the mineral for analysis can be very small and the isotopes of interest can be examined in situ. Good agreement was found on preliminary dating by 207Pb/206Pb, 238U/206Pb, 235U/207Pb and 232Th/208Pb by use of this precedure. The sources of discrepancy were discussed. (Author)
