DEVELOPMENT OF ENGINEERING DATA ON TITANIUM EXTRUSION FOR USE IN AEROSPACE DESIGN.

Abstract

Mechanical property data for Ti 6Al-4V, Ti 8Al-1Mo-1V and Ti 6Al-6V-2Sn extruded shapes, in annealed tempers, are being obtained at test temperatures from -100 F to +800 F in order to provide design informaion for these materials. Data being obtained includes tensile and compressive strengths, shear, bearing, impact properties, creep, stress-rupture, fatigue and fracture toughness characteristics. Separate heats of material are being tested to provide general information on property variation and scatter. Tests are now underway in both the static and the fatigue programs. Preliminary reporting of a portion of the tensile tests and a portion of the compression tests is included in this report.
