LASER SPECTRAL CONTROL TECHNIQUES.

Abstract

Intracavity modulation of laser oscillators offers a variety of spectral control techniques. The characteristics of laser signals resulting from FM and AM internal modulation and several output coupling configurations are compared from the point of view of optical surveillance radar. The coherent pulse train generated by an AM mode-locked laser operating in the TEM mode is selected as the optimum signal for multiple point targets or extended targets. A breadboard YAG:Nd3+ laser with most of the desired characteristics is described and experimentally evaluated. (Author)
