AC GENERATOR ROTOR MATERIALS.

Abstract

This report contains a complete summary of available magnetic, mechanical and thermophysical property data obtained on six of the candidate materials for the SNAP-50/SPUR generator rotor. Some of the data was taken from the literature, however, the bulk of the creep and magnetic data had to be obtained from tests since they were not available in the literature. In all, seven different alloys were considered for use in the SNAP-50/SPUR alternator; AISI H-11, Crucible Steels AFC77, the Ladish Company D-11, three grades of maraging steel containing 15, 18 and 20 percent nickel respectively, and AISI 4340.
