300 MILLIWATT X-BAND TRIODE OSCILLATOR.
Abstract
Efforts concern a development effort directed toward the design and construction of an X-band triode oscillator. Forty-eight Y-1613 triodes of two design variations were constructed for evaluation. Calculations show a 117 C temperature drop across the Y-1613-E anode structure compared to 120 C for the Y-1613-D design. Variations of the Y-1613-E triode design using different grid structures and non-annular cathodes are described. Electrical circuit design data is given for the cavity impedances giving best operation and for the output coupling slot. Other circuit components are described. A new heat sink design using boron nitride as the heat conducting element is explained and the progress made on a tuning mechanism is summarized. Life test data on one tube is given and shows 183 hours of life thus far. Preliminary experiments on electronic tuning are summarized.
