ARRAY BEAM SWITCHING STUDY.

Abstract

The effects of short pulses on the beamforming networks of large arrays, with particular emphasis on switch-controlled beamforming networks, are considered in this study. This report includes a study of regular and irregualr hexagonal subarrays for use in interleaved subarray antenna systems in which an expression for maximum possible efficiency for nonorthogonal beam systems is developed. A choice of six-port hybrid mechanical form for an engineering model is made and a design technique for symmetrical six-port branched hybrids is outlined. A comparison of power handling and attenuation is made between waveguide, dielectric filled stripline, and dielectric supported air stripline. (Author)
