INPUT-OUTPUT TABLES AND THEIR USE IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE.

Abstract

An input-output table is a mathematical model of a national or regional economy. Its essential feature is that it reveals the inter-relations between and among each of the industrial sectors into which the economy is divided. The United States National accounts now include input-output tables, the current set being the 1958 Input-Output Tables. The DoD is engaged in exploratory input-output studies directed toward developing a model which will produce accurate regional economic impact projections of changes in defense expenditures. Such a model would permit formal consideration of economic inpact in DoD procurement actions. (Author)
