SOLAR INDUCED DISTORTION ATMOSPHERIC DRAG COUPLING IN ALOUETTE SATELLITES,

Abstract

The report is concerned with the torques produced by atmospheric drag forces on extendable antennas of the type used for ionospheric sounding on the Alouette satellites. The analysis takes into account the periodic thermally-induced distortion caused by the effects of solar radiation on the tubular antenna elements. General expressions and numerical estimates of the torques produced are given for the Alouette 1 and 2 antenna systems. (Author)
