ANNUAL SOLID STATE PHYSICS CONFERENCE (4TH).

Abstract

This conference is an annual affair sponsored by the Institute of Physics and the Physics Society of Great Britain. Approximately 500 persons attended; they represented most of the countries in Europe including 17 from the Soviet Union as well as a number from other Eastern European countries. At the beginning of each morning and afternoon session invited papers were given -- these amounted to three per day and were of 50 minutes' duration. The remainder of each day was devoted to as many as four simultaneous sessions consisting of 20-minute papers of a highly specialized nature. The sessions were on the following subjects: Extended Defects, Semi-Conductors, Phonons, Sputtering, Solid Argon, Xenons and Thermal Properties, Mossbauer Resonance, Magnetic Alloys, Magnetism, Polymers, F Centers, Electrons in Metals, and Devices.
