ON ELASTIC FILAMENT REINFORCEMENT OF A VISCOELASTIC CYLINDER.

Abstract

The strengthening of hollow viscoelastic cylinder by elastic, helically wound, reinforcing wires is considered. The theoretical basis for stress analysis is developed, and applied to the cylinder subjected to internal pressure and additionally supported by an elastic casing supporting the exterior cylindrical surface. Solutions for various choices of parameters are evaluated, and the variation of the resulting stress fields is discussed. The conclusions include the importance of varying the density of the distribution of reinforcing wires for maximum effectiveness. (Author)
