HIGH POWER LOW PASS FILTER.

Abstract

The design and testing of a high power low pass filter is described. The filter has a pass band of 2 to 30 MHz and a stop band from 41 to 200 MHz. Pass band insertion loss is less than 0.3 dB and the VSWR is less than 1.4:1. The stop band rejection is greater than 60 dB. The filter is capable of operating continuously at 23 kilowatts of average power and 45 kilowatts peak power with two-tone modulation. Connection to the filter is by 3-1/8 inch EIA flanges. The low pass filter was designed for a 0.01 dB ripple Tschebyscheff response. Seventeen elements were used, eight series inductances and nine shunt capacitors. Alumina ceramic was used as the dielectric in the shunt capacitors to provide a good thermally conductive path between the center of the filter and its outer case. (Author)
