FORMAT II - SECOND VERSION OF FORTRAN MATRIX ABSTRACTION TECHNIQUE. VOLUME I. ENGINEERING USER REPORT.
Abstract
A digital computer program for matrix analysis of complex structures is presented. The basic program provides for abstraction of matrix and pseudo matrix operations on matrices of up to 2000 order. Available operations include all standard operations of matrix algebra and various nonstandard operations useful in structural analysis. The outstanding features of the basic program are: (1) the engineer programs his problem directly in matrix notation using simple Fortran-like statements with mnemonic names for matrices and without concern for the bookkeeping required for storage of data on external devices (e.g., tapes), (2) the program automatically allocates utilization of external storage devices for each job, (3) up to nine user-coded subroutines can be added to temporarily function as integral parts of the program, (4) where profitable and practical, data are stored and processed in compressed mode (zero-valued elements omitted) to take advantage of sparsity in a general and fundamental manner, and (5) the program is written entirely in Fortran IV for maximum universality. Two special user-coded subroutines are included for automatic generation of matrices required for analysis of structures by the Redundant Force Method and the Direct Stiffness Method. The program is documented in four volumes. Volume I is primarily a user's manual, Volume II is a programmer's manual, and Volumes III and IV describe the force and displacement method matrix generators, respectively. (Author)
