DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF A BATCH INTERFACE DETECTOR SYSTEM FOR MILITARY PIPELINES TRANSPORTING REFINED HYDROCARBON FUELS.
Abstract
The report covers the development and evaluation of a military pipeline batch interface detector and concludes that: (1) The detector, when evaluated under conditions permitted by the facilities available at these laboratories--namely, technical performance tests utilizing various military fuels in a laboratory pumping system, and operational performance tests utilizing a single fuel in a 6in-600 gpm pumping system--met all the Small Development Requirements with the exception of excessive weight resulting from the use of sheet steel instead of aluminum for cabinet construction. (2) Although the detector is not designed to record API gravity less than 25 degrees, the presence of any fluid in the 25 to 10 degree (water) range will be indicated by the actuation of the alarm system and the movement of the recorder pen to the top of the strip chart. (3) The interface detector meets established requirements and is suitable for integrated engineering and service tests. (Author)
