INVESTIGATION OF NEW CONCEPTS AND LINEAR BEAM TECHNIQUES FOR MICROWAVE GENERATION.
Abstract
This report discusses the progress made on an investigation of active effects in bulk semiconductors and related physical electronics topics. In the Gunn effect studies, the scaling equations for optimum sample geometries for generation of high power using L.S.A. mode of Gunn effect are given. Studies of the L.S.A. output as a function of n/f by keeping the frequency fixed and varying the sample temperature were also performed. In the Read diode studies a new type X-band oscillator cavity has been developed. A study of the electronic properties of large area avalanche junctions at microwave frequencies has also been started. InSb diodes are also under investigation.
