INTERMEDIATE PULSE WIDTH LASER SYSTEM.

Abstract

This report describes the investigation and experimentation performed with a scaled down experimental model of an Intermediate Pulse Width Laser System. Results are presented which led to the preliminary design of a full scale system detailed at the conclusion of the report. The elemental sections, which include generation, isolation, modulation, preamplification and amplification modules, of the experimental device are delineated. Experimental results are given for the various types of laser glass rods used in the system. Finally, Appendixes are included covering Pulse-Sharpening in Laser Amplifiers, The Use of Nd-Yb Laser Glass as a 1.06 micron Power Amplifier, and the Target Feedback Problem. (Author)
