COMPARISON OF RESULTS OBTAINED FROM TESTS OF THE RALS MARK 7 MOD 1 ARRESTING-GEAR SYSTEM REEVED WITH 1-3/8 X 6 X 30 LLFS TYPE G AND 1-3/8 X 6 X 25 FW LLRS PURCHASE CABLES.

Abstract

Tests were conducted with the Mark 7 Mod 1 arresting-gear system reeved with 1-3/8 x 6 x 30 LLFS Type G purchase cable and with 1-3/8 x 6 x 25 FW LLRS purchase cable. A comparison of arresting-gear and aircraft performance characteristics obtained with both configurations is presented. ON-CENTER, 20-foot-to-starboard, and 20-foot-to-port arrestments of various weight A-3, A04, F-4, and F-8 aircraft were conducted at an initial engaging speed of 90 knots. The speeds were increased in 10-knot increments until a limiting speed was attained. Both taxi-in and fly-in arrestments were conducted. The comparison revealed no appreciable difference in performance characteristics. (Author)
