A SELF-BALANCING RF BRIDGE.

Abstract

A circuit has been developed that, by automatically balancing an ac bridge, avoids problems associated with drift. A slightly modified circuit can be used with dc bridges. The time constant for the self-balancing network was made long compared to measurement time so that deactivation during measurement was not necessary. From the three types of variable electrical components investigated, field effect transistors were selected. Circuit diagrams and a phasor diagram explaining operation of the circuit are given. Specifications for a self-balancing rf electrical conductivity bridge developed for use aboard a reentry vehicle are discussed. A data reduction scheme is formulated for the case where the self-balancing network time constant is comparable to measurement time. (Author)
