MEASUREMENTS OF THE CENTER-LIMB VARIATION IN THE H- AND K-LINES OF CAII IN UNDISTURBED AND ACTIVE REGIONS ON THE SUN,

Abstract

The center-limb variation of delta lambda sub 2, defined as half the distance between the emission peaks in the doubly reversed H- and K-lines is investigated. In undisturbed regions the center-limb variation may be represented by a well defined smooth curve. This is not the case in active regions although there is a tendency for the delta lambda sub 2 to increase towards the limb. The difference between the measurements in the H- and K-lines is probably due to a systematic error in the observed delta lambda sub 2 in the H-line.
