NOTES ON MECHANICS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM - PART I.
Abstract
Mechanics, or more particularly Structural Mechanics, is a wide field. This and subsequent reports in the series will serve as detailed introductions to the field at a limited number of institutions in Great Britain. It is hoped that taken in toto the reader will gain insight into the direction and depth to which the subject is being pursued. The report concerns two branches of the Univ. of Wales -- Univ. College of Swansea, and Univ. College of South Wales and Monmouthshire; two Midlands redbrick institutions -- Univ. of Nottingham and Univ. of Birmingham; and the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington. (Author)
