ANALYSIS OF THE BIAXIAL STRIP AND SHEAR LAP TESTS FOR SOLID PROPELLANT CHARACTERIZATION,

Abstract

Analyses of the biaxial strip test and the shear lap test were performed to determine the stress and strain distributions as a function of specimen geometry and material properties. A finite element method, based upon linear elasticity, was used to analyze the complex geometries. Ramifications of large deformation and viscoeleastic effects, as related to the results presented for the biaxial strip tests, are discussed. A comparison was made of the theoretical results obtained with the results of a photoelastic analysis for the shear lap test. (Author)
