ERROR RATE ANALYSIS OF M-ARY TRANSMITTED-REFERENCE SYSTEMS USING THE SUNDE TROPOSCATTER MODEL.

Abstract

M-ary orthogonal and differentially coded transmitted-reference systems have been evaluated as to their performance in a Sunde troposcatter channel model. It has been found that the irreducible time dispersion bound decreases with M for orthogonal coding and increases with M for differentially coherent coding (M = 2, 4, and 8). The results have been compared with several other troposcatter systems that have, in the past, been evaluated using the Sunde model. The results show that several of the M-ary techniques can improve the irreducible bound by more than an order of magnitude. An illustrative design is shown in block diagram from which demonstrates a simple but efficient realization of a high data rate tropo communications system. (Author)
