REPORT ON DENSITY DISCRIMINATION.

Abstract

This study establishes the feasibility of predicting proper print exposure from measurements made in the optical Fourier transform plane of aerial negatives. The average transmission of these negatives, which included water and cloud cover scenes, was measured and found to vary by a factor of 42. Data taken at 40 and 70 cycles/mm were useful in predicting proper print exposure. Based on the results of the study, an automatic exposure control attachment was designed for the Niagara Printer.
