INITIATION OF EXPLOSIVES BY EXPLODING WIRES. X. CAPACITANCE - VOLTAGE RELATIONSHIPS FOR THE INITIATION OF PETN BY EXPLODING WIRES.

Abstract

The 50% firing voltage level for 3 different size gold bridgewires was studied (as a function of capacitance) over a range of 0.05 to 9.9 microfarads. There are optimum capacitor values where a minimum of stored energy is necessary for high order initiation of PETN. The optimum capacitance value varies with the size of the bridgewire, decreasing as the size of the bridgewire decreases.
