NEW METHODS LEADING TO HIGH EFFICIENCY IN TRAVELING-WAVE TUBES.
Abstract
This is the third of four reports to be issued quarterly detailing the progress made towards achieving high efficiency in traveling-wave tubes. During this report period, five new tubes were built and three were tested, and additional tests were performed on a previously built tube reported last quarter (Tube No. 4). In addition, a large signal computer program was acquired so that the theory of over-voltage traveling-wave tubes may be checked against our experimental results. Two main avenues have been explored experimentally during this quarter. We have attempted to isolate experimentally, some of the parameters responsible for high efficiency in positively tapered tubes and we have attempted to use the positive taper principle in a severed circuit two helix tube. These studies are reported here along with the inferences which we can draw from them. (Author)
