OCEANOGRAPHIC CRUISE SUMMARY SALVOPS VIEQUES, USS HOIST (ARS-40).

Abstract

An oceanographic survey was conducted off the eastern tip of Vieques Island during August 1966. The purpose of the survey was to obtain current, bottom sediment, and underwater photographic data for immediate use by U. S. Navy divers working in the area. Only current data were obtained in sufficient quantity to be useful. Observed currents were predominantly tidal with a nearly constant phase relationship between maximum flood and ebb and predicted high and low tides. Observed currents also were significantly stronger than predicted currents and times of maximum flood and ebb occurred later than predicted. (Author)
