CHEMISTRY AND SYNTHESIS OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS.

Abstract

A study of the chemistry and synthesis of certain multifunctional aromatic and heterocyclic intermediates for polymer synthesis was carried out. Compounds supplied to the Air Force Materials Laboratory were: 1,4,5,8-tetranitronaphthalene, 4,5-diamino-1,8-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, 4, 5-diamino-1,8-naphthalenedicarboxylic anhydride, 4,5-dinitro-1,8-naphthalenedicarboxylic anhydride, dimethyl 4,5-diamino-1,8-naphthalenedicarboxylate, dimethyl 4,5-dinitro-1,8-naphthalenedicarboxylate, phenanthrene-4,5-dicarboxylic acid, 2,2',6,6'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid. Other compounds whose syntheses were investigated include: 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetramine, 2,3,7,8-dibenzofurantetramine, pyrene-4,5,9,10-tetrone, phenanthrene-9,10-dione-4,5-dicarboxylic acid.
