OPTIMUM LOADING PLANS FOR THE M113 ARMORED PERSONNEL CARRIER

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to determine optimum loading plans for M113 armored personnel carriers used with three different rifle platoons -- the ROAD 65 mechanized rifle platoon and the optimum mechanized and alternate mechanized platoons developed by USACDCEC for 1965-1970. Supply requirements were developed for one day in combat, and the maximum number of one-day supplies were then loaded in the carriers. Loads were changed as the experiment progressed, allowing incorporation of the observations and comments of personnel involved in the experiment. An optimum loading plan for each of the three platoons was derived.
