BROADENING OF SPECTRAL LINES OF AIR MOLECULES.

Abstract

The widths of the rotational lines of the N2+ First Negative System and of the O2 Schumann-Runge System have been determined for shock-tube emission spectra. The SACHA Code employing a special frequency atlas to account for fine structure splitting has been used to compute the detailed rotational-line intensity envelope for selected wavelength regions using a Lorentz line shape with a variable input line width. The calculated envelopes are fitted to the experimental envelopes on both a shape and a peak-to-minimum intensity argument to obtain line widths.
