CL. BOTULINUM F. REPORT I. MORPHOLOGY AND CULTURAL PROPERTIES,
Abstract
Morphologically Cl, botulinum F is a short bacillus, having peritrichous flagella and forming spores, is gram positive, and grows under strictly anaerobic conditions both in liquid and solid nutrient media with the liberation of a large amount of gas. On the surface of hepatic agar the colinies grow with a smooth edge, and on the surface of sugar-blood agar -- are branched. It yields hemolysins for humand blood. Botulinum toxin type F does not have antigenic gonds with the toxins of types A, B, C, and D, but at the same time possesses a certain antigenic community with type E toxin. At an increased temperature the process of spore formation is speeded up (at 37C - in one day), and at a lower temperature it is slowed down (at 18C --4--5 days). At 110C, steam under pressure kills spore and nonspore forms of the microbe. (Author)
